On April 24, I had the privilege of joining the judging panel at the British Business Awards, held at the EICC in Edinburgh. The event raised an incredible £1.3 million for Social Bite, far surpassing its target and demonstrating the power of purpose-driven business.

The night celebrated outstanding entrepreneurs from across the UK, with finalists representing fintech, sustainability, logistics and more. But for me, what stood out most was Scotland’s role. From standout nominees to host companies and the electric energy in the room, it was clear: Scottish business isn’t just competing — it’s leading.

I co-hosted a table alongside Susana Garcia Barreiro and Graham Buchan, welcoming a powerhouse group of guests. The conversations we had reflected the wider message of the night: collaboration is no longer optional, it’s essential. The future of British business will be built through shared ideas, integrated sectors, and bold thinking.

With performances by Sting, a keynote from Sir Bob Geldof, and comedy from Rob Brydon, the evening had its fair share of spectacle. But beyond the glitz, it was a reminder that business is at its best when driven by community, collaboration, and a wider purpose.

If you’re a founder, innovator or changemaker in Scotland, now’s the time to step forward. Events like the British Business Awards aren’t just about prestige. They’re about visibility, credibility, and impact.

Scotland is ready for the spotlight — and we’re already showing the rest of the UK how it’s done.
