This week marks the historic opening of the Queensferry Crossing – the UK’s tallest bridge and Scotland’s biggest infrastructure project in a generation.

At 207 metres tall and spanning 2.7km, the bridge represents an engineering marvel and an economic boost, connecting Fife and Edinburgh with improved motorway links.

Not only will journeys become faster and more reliable, but the bridge’s innovative windshielding means fewer closures due to high winds.

The construction has also supported thousands of jobs, including local SMEs like Broxburn’s Corecut, which provided essential expertise throughout the six-year build.

With its completion, Scotland now boasts three world-class bridges across the Forth, demonstrating our engineering skill and determination.

Discount Supermarkets Shake Up Retail

German discounters Lidl and Aldi continue to disrupt the UK’s grocery landscape.

Lidl has overtaken Waitrose as the UK’s seventh-largest supermarket, with sales up by nearly a fifth.

Aldi is closing in on Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Morrisons.

The shift reflects tighter household budgets and savvy shopping habits, forcing the bigger supermarkets to compete on price and quality.

Scotrail has been named the UK’s best-performing large train operator with a punctuality rating of 90.9 per cent.

After years of delays and complaints, it’s a welcome turnaround, though many commuters may remain sceptical.

Rising house prices are forcing more Scots to rent for longer.

The average private tenancy is now 18 months, rising to 20 in Edinburgh, where prices are climbing fastest outside of London.

This trend, dubbed ‘Generation Rent’, highlights the challenges facing first-time buyers.
