SRA Ventures Limited has received full planning permission to convert the former Alloa Police Station into a modern self-storage facility, clearing the way for development to begin later this summer.
The prominent town-centre building had initially attracted interest from various developers, many of whom had considered demolition due to its complex layout and original security-focused design.
SRA Ventures proposed a plan that preserves and adapts the existing structure for a secure and accessible storage, avoiding the environmental impact of demolition and new construction.
The approved plans include over 80 internal storage units across 16,000 square feet of converted space, alongside a further eight drive-up units formed from the site’s outbuildings.
A second planning application has also been submitted for the addition of high-spec modular units in the yard area, using modern materials and integrated digital locking.

The storage centre will operate as a fully automated facility, with keyless smartphone access, 24/7 monitored CCTV, motion sensors, and smoke detectors in every unit. There will be no permanent staff on-site, keeping traffic and disruption to a minimum. Customers will book online, and routine checks and cleaning will be carried out by visiting staff.
In a nod to the building’s former use, the layout of several internal units will reflect the site’s history. Former cells, detention wings, and armoury spaces will be reimagined as secure and characterful storage rooms, while retaining many of the original architectural features.
The facility will supply local residents looking for household storage, students attending nearby colleges, and small businesses in need of secure space for stock, equipment or records. Its central location, close to major roads and public transport, makes it particularly convenient.
As well as preserving a historically significant building, the development prioritises sustainability. The facility will require little to no heating, make use of low-energy lighting, and SRA Ventures is exploring options for future solar panel installation to reduce environmental impact.
Work on the site is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with launch targeted for later this year.
